Nominator's project description

Professor Gustavo Branco made during the last 30 years outstanding contributions to the understanding of the discrete symmetries in particle physics and their violations in the framework of the Standard Model and its extensions. In particular his work on the violation of the so-called CP-symmetry in low energy processes and recently on the generation of the observed matter-antimatter asymmetry with the help of heavy neutrinos (leptogenesis) should be emphasized. It is the last topic, which Prof. Branco has extensively investigated in collaboration with his host Prof. Andrzej Buras and his group at the Technical University Munich. Prof. Branco`s book on the violation of CP symmetry is considered as the best existing book on this topic
